Where does your city rank on the fitness scale?

I read an article in USA Today that named the top cities with the highest fitness rankings. I was really surprised that Washington D.C. was ranked #1! I had to keep reading to find out what was the criteria for this fitness ranking. Here is the fitness criteria below:
Fitness Criteria
• Availability of parks, walking and bike trails and public transportation.
• Percentage of people who exercise regularly, maintain a healthy weight and eat the recommended daily servings of fruits and vegetables.
• Percentage of people who have access to health care and have health insurance.
• Percentage of people who don’t smoke.
My city is ranked #30, however, I live 40 miles north of Los Angeles. My actual city, Santa Clarita, is doing an awesome job with providing a number of parks, walking and bike trails. This is the 2nd year that this report has been released. I’m sure that Santa Clarita will make its way to the list one day. Here is the list of cities:

Top 5 Reasons You Aren’t Losing Weight
May 18, 2009 by nctrower
Filed under Jumpstart Your Metabolism, Lose Weight Fast
I just had a talk with 2 of my girlfriends that have serious food issues. They tend to eat when stressed, upset or angry. I told both of them that they need to replace the food with something more productive and
CHANGE THEIR MINDSET!
It will take some soul searching and journalling to find the source of their addictive behavior. What I’ve seen that helps to break this bad pattern is to write down when these feelings happen and/or call a close friend to make sure you do something else other than eating non-supportive meals.
I thought this was great material for my next blog post so here it goes…
Top 5 Reasons You Aren’t Losing Weight
1. Your Mindset – This is a major factor to whether you win or lose the battle with your weight loss. You will have good and bad days. As long as you get back up and keep pushing on in the right direction, you will see results. DO NOT rely on food as an escape from your problems.
2. Bad Habits – instead of eating when stressed, angry or upset start making positive changes like working out instead. Even if it is in the comfort of your own home. Here are some examples of exercises that I do at home. You can also check out the May sample workout that is on the sidebar of this blog provided by my fitness trainer.
3. Your Workouts – I have been guilty of doing the same workout over and over again. Changing your workout every month is the one of the best things you can do to break through your weight loss plateau. I have seen more results in 3 months than I have in 7 years just by implementing this change to my plan.
4. Random Eating Pattern – your body tends to hold on to more fat if you are not fueling your body properly throughout the day. It is important to eat every 3 – 4 hours to boost your metabolism and provide the fuel that you need to get through your day.
5. Stress – I have a friend that said she’s doing everything right: eating supportively, exercising regularly..she’s majorly stressed out but she can’t figure out why she isn’t losing weight. Stress is a major weight loss inhibitor. Take the time to de-stress yourself on a daily basis if you need to. You need to make time for you!
So what about you? What has been your biggest struggle?

Michelle Obama expresses importance of Exercise

It is great to see and hear the First Lady, Michelle Obama, sharing the importance of health and exercise on Sesame Street. We should be examples to our children so they will develop healthy habits. I’m sure that Sasha and Malia are very aware that their parents get up every morning at 5:30 am to workout. Michelle obviously has the arms to prove it! Here is a short video of Michelle Obama expressing to Elmo the importance of health and exercise.

Cookie Johnson New Designer Jeans Line CJ

Filed under Jumpstart Your Metabolism, Skinny Jeans
I hope everyone enjoyed their Mother’s Day weekend. I had a great time being a model for Cookie Johnson’s new premium denim line, CJ. I was modeling the different styles of jeans for my husband
. My husband wanted to meet Magic Johnson as he attends a lot of Cookie’s events, however he was at an ESPN event this particular weekend.
It was great meeting Cookie and MC Lyte who was the DJ at the event and spending time with one of my best friends from college, Dana, who is Cookie’s public relations executive.
I love her line of jeans! They fit every curve and made all of my fitness efforts all worth it. It was great to be able to fit into skinny jeans and see the drastic difference between now and 3 months ago. It made me that much more motivated for my current fitness challenge. It’s not hard to be motivated to get in 15 minutes of exercise since it brings me such incredible results. You can buy her CJ Jeans at Nordstroms, Nieman Marcus and Bloomingdales.
I was upset that I had charged batteries for my digital camera but when I got there, they didn’t work! I don’t know what was up with that. My friend Dana had a camera phone but the darn pictures turned out so blurry. That was disappointing but I’ll post this picture of us anyway. When I resized the pictures, the quality wasn’t too bad. Did I mention that I was a size 14 and now I am in size 10? Yahoo!
My kids made me great gifts and we enjoyed yummy BBQ the whole weekend. We all had a great time and I hope your time was just as enjoyable. We,as moms, do so much to take care of our families and you deserve the best!
Here are a few pictures of Cookie Johnson’s line of jeans. I noticed that the style of jeans that I really like (my 2nd picture above) is not on the Nordstrom website. I tried on each style and that pair is not listed.
