Beach Body Shakeology Review

What is all of the fuss about Beach Body Shakeology? Wow, 70 healthy ingredients in 1 glass..gotta have a strange taste, right? Well I’m here to tell you that it is true. It does taste a bit strange!
It’s all of the green ingredients that make you feel like you are drinking a bunch of herbs.
My good friend, Coach Jenn from Personal Fit Coach directed me to her site with the goods. I actually had a great friend from Twitter, Michelle Olander, send me a huge sample of shakeology. As you know, I am not a chocolate fan so Michelle sent over the greenberry flavor. Jenn gave me some great suggestions:
“I love to blend it with OJ and fresh berries. I often throw in some strawberry yogurt too. What is nice is that the base shake mix is only 140 so adding another 100-150 cals is no biggie for a meal replacement.”
I tried Shakeologoy with OJ and it tastes much better than water but I had to add a little water in addition to the OJ to get it to my liking. I also tried it with Almond Milk and let’s just say that I prefer the OJ version. I haven’t added yogurt or fruit yet but the “herb” taste is a little hard to swallow.
I’m just going to have to make use of the shakeology recipe section to make sure I use up all of my sample.
Here is the Greenberry Shakeology Nutritional Information and the Chocolate Shakeology Nutritional Information.
The main downside to the Shakeology product is that is there is no trial size option. There is only 1 option to buy a 30 day supply for $119.95. I want to know that I like a product before waiting for a full refund.
I don’t know if it’s all of the natural ingredients hitting me all at once but I tend to get a headache right after drinking each shake. I am one that hardly ever gets headaches so I found that to be pretty strange. Have you tried Beach Body Shakeology yet? What are your thoughts?

Thanks for the mention.
I agree one hundred percent with your review of the greenberry…I will say, that the chocolate left no headaches though and for those who love to mix choc. and peanut butter..yum!
Thanks for giving it a chance! I’d love to work with you again soon!
Hi MIchelle,
Thanks again for the Shakeology! Ok I have to confess that I love Reese’s cups so I may try the chocolate and mix w/PB as well!
You are probably getting the headache due to your body detoxing. Wheatgrass is a very powerful detoxifier even in small amounts. As you eat more healthy foods and stay away from toxins (alcohol, fatty foods, etc.) your head will be just fine!
Thanks for the info Karin! I’ll keep that in mind.
Sure! I just ordered the chocolate flavor, I’m super excited to give it a try. I take shots of wheatgrass all the time so I know what they can do if you’ve had a little too much fun the night before, lol!
Cool Karin! Let me know what you think. I’m about to make a greenberry shake now.
I’ve had the greenberry shake 5 days in a row and I wish i could say i feel a difference. i hate the texture, and underneath the “greenberry” it just tastes like vitamins, a pretty nasty taste. I have a whey isolate powder that i love, but I’m really not sold on shakeology. I swear it has actually made me constipated, for all its claims to “improve regularity” I have two friends who claim they feel energized, i wonder if they just feel lighter from not carrying around and digesting solid foods… ah well, 140 bucks down the drain…
Laura,
I’m sorry that you had a bad experience. I don’t really care for the taste but I’ve just added more almond milk so I don’t waste the free sample that I received.
Glad to hear that you gave it a try. It is not for everyone, but I still love my Greenberry everyday with strawberry yogurt, frozen blueberries and OJ. Blend in a blender with ice and it is just so good! I love the way it gives me energy and is a great meal replacement. I’m not a big chocolate fan, but folks do rave about it being mixed with peanut butter for sure.
I absolutely love shakeology. I have only had the greenberry, and yes, the flavor was hard to get used to at first. Now I crave it. I want to start adding stuff to it, like recommended above. Thanks for those ideas. I am a teambeachbody member so I believe my total is only $108 per month. I just ordered chocolate so i can give that a try. All in all, I really feel that shakeology does what it says. I do feel more energized, and it gets me pepped for working out. I now want to go get all sorts of goodies to throw in the blender with it. THANKS!
Wow, that’s amazing that you have developed a CRAVING for the greenberry flavor.
It’s hard for me to drink it plain. I still haven’t added any fruit, only OJ with not much improvement. That’s just my taste buds though.
Just received the chocolate Shakeology mix. Used 8 oz skim milk. Thick and tastey! I felt full for four hours after eating it nibbling only on a couple of grapes for my afternoon snack. Okay – one try. If this has all the nutrition it claims (and I have no reason to doubt) and serves as one full meal substitute, I think it will definitely help me on my weight loss goals and be worth the expense. I am anxious to try some of the recipe ideas I’ve seen on the Beach Body website.
I have been using the chocolate flavor for a month and love it – 1/3 cup almond or soy milk and 1 tbs of “almost peanut butter” from Trader Joes (1/2 the fat and calories of the regular). I also add 1/2 cup of frozen blueberries, a bit of hot water and ice cubes. So my shake is 300 calories total – perfect for a meal. It has the consistency of a chocolate shake – is completely filling and I’ve lost 6 lbs. I’m working out too though…In terms of the expense it is worth it because you aren’t buy meals…
Jennifer,
So are you saying that you are only eating meal replacements as your only source of food? Our bodies need to digest actual food, not only meal replacements.
Totaly agree about the green berry needs improvment but it’s great
for that first week of cleansing and the flavour can be improved with
orange extract and fat free yogurt and as far as the headaches go
that’s your body going throught withdrawl from all the garbage most
people feed them selves so use the berry for the cleanse and because
the chocolate is more versitile use it long term. And as a coach I can
advise you on ways to save on that $120 price tag also I am always
giving samples away.
Well, I got my shakes on Wednesday, and so far I think it’s going to last me 60 days personally, because when I blend it with the one scoop and the ice, yogurt, and blahze blah. I think I eyeballed too much water, but a cup and a half which was like a half scoop was all I could get down in two days, maybe if I just mix it in a glass like I’m supposed to I can get the full value. As far as I know though, I have been eating less on it, and it makes me FULL. Not like I over ate full, but also not like i could eat more full. I was just satiated in a comfortable way. I’m also not to mince words, so… I’m pretty regular, but it’s making me poop more… Also, I drank it for lunch took a two hour nap, and I can’t sleep, of course that could be my midday nap talking.
Well, if you’re giving away samples lol – my cousin is a Beachbody coach but I bought my 4 samples off of her for $20. Feel free to send some my way
I start trying them tomorrow as a substitute for dinner (I usually consume most of my calories at dinner and need to cut a lot out to start losing some weight)
Hopefully substituting these for meals will help me lose weight – I’ve started working out (haven’t worked out…ever…until the beginning of this January) but haven’t seen ANY weight loss and I work out 1 hour a day for 4 days per week and have been watching what I eat.
This is my second time giving Shakeology a shot- Initially I got the greenberry, which I had to send back for being totally unpalatable and unsalvageable, no matter what I mixed with it. It also gave me horrible headaches and made me really nauseated, but I was chalking (heh!) that up to the flavor. (Also, not buying the “wheatgrass is detoxing you” load of nonsense a previous commenter tried to shill, what with a pure double-shot of wheatgrass juice doesn’t make my head want to explode like Shakeology does. Also, our bodies are wonderful natural detoxifying machines– 99% of detox talk, unless you are suffering from heavy metal poisoning or something along those lines- is shaky science at best.)
Last week, my boyfriend got Chocolate, so I decided to give it another shot this past week. Still with the headaches and this time I was drinking it as an evening snack– I noticed that I woke up feeling like I’d been out drinking all night. Headache, bloaty, thirsty… I track all my calories so, everything else being equal, after a week of Shakeology I am up 3 pounds and feel puffy all over. What’s that about “fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice…?”
Jessica,
No weight loss can mean a number of different things. You are not eating enough calories for your weight and height. Keep a food journal of your calories. I’m losing weight & inches by only working out 15 min / day for 6 days a week. I will find the chart that will personalize the amount of calories that you need to eat every day and add it here in a moment. http://www.fatlossbyeatingwhatuwant.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/calorie_calculator2.xls
Very interesting comments Heather!
